MSN SEO

In my experience of MSN SEO it is always easier and faster to attain results on MSN Search than it is to rank highly for the same keywords on Google or Yahoo. If you look at the search terms on my SEO portfolio you will notice most targeted keywords are #1 in MSN yet many are still to be picked up by Google or Yahoo.

This is largely to do with the age factor, Google and Yahoo weigh the age of a domain name and incoming links far more highly than MSN. This is to ensure results are relevant to the search and can be backed up by many recognised incoming links which have been added over time, as opposed to a spam website which has just been created. The bad news is you will have to be more patient for rankings to be achieved in Google, while you should start getting traffic from MSN fairly quickly. An example of this would be a search for ‘A Place in the Sun’, in MSN www.placesun.co.uk has been number 1 for around 3-4 months but has only just appeared on the first page of Google UK. I have found that if you seem to be getting the MSN SEO right there is a good chance similar rankings in Google will follow as your on-site optimisation must be good.

The first steps of MSN SEO would be to concentrate on the on-site factors such as keyword density, page content, internal linking, page title’s and headers. There are also off-site factors which can affect your MSN rankings which include the relevancy, quality and quantity of inbound links. Searching for related:yourwebsite.com normally brings up a good list of website’s relevant to your own and gives a good idea of who to exchange with. Once this has been completed you should begin to achieve high rankings in MSN and you can then begin to work on improving your Google and Yahoo results.
