Aviva Directory yesterday posted an excellent article titled Little Known Ways to Brand on the Cheap: 99 Tips for Poor Web Startups.
This lists some great methods to raise the profile of a website cheaply, I particularly liked point 26 about controlling the top 10 search results by creating social media e-profiles as this is something I’ve been working on doing myself recently with my LinkedIn profile currently ranking 7th for ‘Kevin Gibbons’ searches.
“26. E-profiles: manage your reputation. If a potential customer types in your name into a search engine, what sort of results will they see in the top 10? It’s key for you to secure the top 10 results in Google, Yahoo and MSN for searches relating directly and indirectly (if possible) to your brand. You need to be the one defining what people see when they search for you, not your competition. Start by building e-profiles on authority domains such as MySpace, Squidoo, AboutUs, WordPress, Blogger/ Blogspot, MSN Spaces, TypePad, Newsvine, LinkedIn, Rollyo, Wikipedia, etc. Don’t let someone else define who you are.”

That’s a good point to raise Kevin. I think peoples awareness of this is growing, and its likely we’ll see a lot more people start grabbing the top10 for “brandX” or “personY” by using the social sites.
Some nice tips there. I was looking for similar blog on seo for some time with superb tips on PPC marketing
