In the past few months Google has applied penalty after penalty to a huge number of websites without having the decency to explain why.

Most people assume that the sites were hit by a link buying or link selling penalty but today the issue got even worse after Dmoz stopped ranking for its own name.

Some people are saying its a duplicate content issue or a technical fault with the dmoz site but the fact that Google has yet to confirm or deny the apparent Dmoz penalty just leaves everybody posting wild
speculation.

Why can’t Google just tell a site that they have been given a manual or algorithmic ban instead of forcing the website owner to guess?

I know Google doesn’t have an obligation to post this information but with thousands of people copying popular bloggers it wouldn’t hurt to make an example of people and to point out the truth when bloggers post rumours.
