Step 1 of a marketing campaign: Google

Posted on December 5th, 2007 by Patrick Altoft

A website called Healthy Toys is one of the hottest search terms today thanks to some clever marketing and mainstream press coverage. Writing about how to stop Christmas toys poisoning your children is always a good way to bring in millions of visitors.

The problem is that a search for “healthy toys” doesn’t bring up the website on Google. The site is so popular it made the top of Google’s Hot Trends list and yet people can’t find the site.

What this company should have done is made sure the site ranked for it’s own name before they started promoting it. A company that doesn’t even rank on Google for it’s own name can often find visitors losing trust before they even find the site.

    Healthytoys.org ranks for me now.

I agree though – always make sure that you can be found when people look for you. these brand – based searches are the highest converting traffic you’ll ever come across so you need to make sure you capture it!
