Google Makes Clickthrough Decision Easier by Displaying Forum Post Count
I’ve noticed this on Google a few times recently, but when forum listings appear in organic search results they have a post count, number of authors and last post date stamp alongside them:
For example, try this search for .htaccess subdomain redirect:

Google only rolled this out a couple of weeks ago, but I’m already finding it very useful quickly to filter out the one post forum results and instead being able to pick out threads containing more substantial information, without the need for clicking each listing.
From an SEO perspective it’s also likely to influence clickthrough rates, so popular forum communities may be rewarded with additional search engine traffic.

Huh? 2 post threads are just as good as 20 post threads right? Are you saying they think the opposite.? Confused.

Jaan, I agree 2 post threads in many cases probably are more valuable than 20 post discussions. But I would expect given the choice users would click on the popular discussions far more frequently.

I tweeted about this few days back ( http://twitter.com/DreamTimes/statuses/954283650 ) and also the ‘new’ video result that google has been testing recently ( http://twitter.com/DreamTimes/statuses/938228374 ).
Displaying forum post count feature seems very helpful to me, helps me a decision to click or not based on no. of posts and last update.
Cheers!

It looks similar to the system they’ve used in Google Groups for a long time.

This is good because I hate clicking through and there just being a question asked with no answers.
They should do this with answers.com or yahoo answers

Google is truly working hard to create a valuable and relevant product. I love forums so this info is extremely useful.
