Kevin,

All great points. And yes, Who Moved My Cheese is a favorite of mine. Maybe we need to help people "grow" instead of "change." Maybe they would like that word better. :) Then again, some people may just prefer to continue to crap in their diapers. I mean, why change? :)

@Savvas well since Google apparently doesn't keep a secondary index for mobile anymore... yes speed is a bigger issue...

Google understands that it takes people years to get around to, just look at @Kevin's post about people still not using Web Analytics...
http://www.seoptimise.com/blog/2009/12/ask-restaurants-making-a-meal-of-their-seo-strategy.html

Matt Cutts has been talking about please consider page load times for ages, but how to provide that feedback and shape that information into a an extra feature for "webmasters tool" takes even Google sometime.

@David that never crossed my mind until you mentioned it and now thinking of it doesn't Google have interests in mobile phone technology? that makes more sense why this sudden urge to include the speed factor in the algorithm.

Saying that, why would Google preannounce this? Since when did google tell us what they are up to? and way ahead for what is hot in early 2010? Do you think they are measuring the responce and take that into account before they include in the Caffeine update?

@Savvas well it also helps with bandwidth limitations of devices such as the iPhone. This is also likely reasons that Google is dumping duplicate and low quality content from its index.

Outside the fact that they operate a dual index that combines popular and secondary pages.

Great post, good readying. Would anyone agree with me that there is a bigger picture with Google and latest attempt to make web experience faster? Could it also be that Google is trying to save money as it must cost a fortune to run all these servers that host all this data we create. By "forcing" website owners to make their websites faster surely Google is first to benefit? What you think guys?

'Who moved my cheese?' is great, four different typical reactions on change. One can learn something about themselves. When it comes to your article I strongly agree with point 6 which true for everything. Whenever you want to reach success, try a few threads at once. They accumulate and bring profits together.

Great post. I totally agree with "Don’t put all your eggs in one basket". I see companies doing exactly that, investing on expensive PPC campaigns, for example, and not paying attention to serious design problems that their sites suffer (and which lead to poor user experience). Companies should start aiming to maintain a good balance (SEO, PPC, Social Media...) which is what really will pay off.

Great blog, they are indeed very helpful to me, especially 2) Be aware of competitors, i found out that my competitors change from time to time, it is very hard for me to find the real one, and i always waste time and energy on some less important ones

As with most things getting it's about getting the balance right between sticking with you know works and finding new ways and utilising new ideas into the whole picture. Not getting distracted by unproven tactics can save a lot of time and effort. Always test and test again before deploying at a greater level.

And point 4 is spot on, knee jerk reactions are usally counter productive. It can be tempting and quite often highly pressurised to 'do something' rather than wait. As fast moving as SEO and SEM is patience can be very rewarding.

From my own experiences, the people who tend to be working with ideas from the past and are so entrenched in those ideas there is no option for change. I've seen many people asking to have work done that will hurt them more then help them (all based on those outdated ideas). When you take the time to explain it, they think you're either lying or trying to sell them something.

I think with things like Search Engine Optimization, people forget that it's totally different from Search Engine Marketing, and different again from online advertising (and vise versa). People tend to throw them all in the same pile and expect everything to be able to play nice together. If only that was true!

Thanks for the great post.
