Great story. I think it’s funny how Yahoo! had “buzz” for years and years but they never bothered to integrate it until recently. And it never quite got the attention that Google Buzz is getting. The problem with Yahoo is they didn’t allow the public to have their say or control, but Google gets it. It’s a public popularity index, not THEIR popularity index!

Hey Andrew,
yeah, I noticed the “real links” on GB but didn’t think about the additional Twitter benefit. On the other hand, Google indexes Twitter links inspie of the nofollow anyways. I’ve tested that. Also the Twitter echo is a bit annoying on GB. Thank you for the feedack!

I can’t help feeling that the SEO blogs above are missing a trick here. What they seem to fail to point out is that, when you point it at a Twitter feed, Buzz strips out the “no follow” tags that are embedded in Twitter.

This means that all the links you have in Twitter become visible to Google and any other passing web crawler.

So there is potential here to generate pints of link juice back to the web pages of your choice.

Good news/bad news:

Bad news – it’s going to be a dream for spammers (I am sure Google will have added an algorithm to prevent abuse though).

Good news – it’s a Google platform – so it is hard to imagine that they will penalise users if they play by the rules and help to build legitimate and organic networks.
