Good read – you’re very correct, most people think that they can throw up a blog, hit it with several commonly discussed plugins and they have an internet winner.

These are the people that typically ignore the standard SEO rules, spend no time on the content and then turn up in the forums bleating about no traffic nor revenue.

This is really a great list, all newbies should read this. The image issues you address is one of the most important, especially if you do travel blogs. Anyway, you addresse the issue about post data, and you write removing it is not a good idea, could you please explain why?

These tips are very helpful and so true! I have seen those instances with spam comments and I’ve been trying to make sure mine do not seem that way and remove the ones i get from my own blog.

Your point about encouraging particpation seems really good, as well as the reminder to encourage your community by replying to comments – the community aspect of blogs seems to me to be their most valuable asset, and highlights the ‘natural’ approach as more engaging and productive.

allowing comments on a blog will only help, even if someone leaves a negative comment, being able to manage that and address it shows good skills.

Really, I like this point that people do not allow comment post on their blogs but it gives a chance to know opinion others on our subject so we should not Switch off comments area .

Yikes, didn’t see this post til now. Glad PostRank’s playing a useful part in SEO strategy. I like how the post formatting worked out so the PostRank mention is right beside the Top Posts widget, too. Nicely done. :)

We’ve received some interesting anecdotal reports of visits/views increases with the widget, and are always interested in more. Once our Contextual Top Posts Widget (currently only available to our Analytics subscribers) has been out for a while, I’ll be curious to stats about that, too.

Hmm. Daniel Ha of Disqus leaves a comment and doesn’t bother returning despite more complaints from Andy Beard. Goes to show that Disqus might just not be worth it. Anyway I never really liked signing in to leave comments on blogs. It’s just plain tedious even if I had broadband which would make the whole process faster.

After reading this post, I think I might strip my blog posts of dates. Hopefully after Google re-indexes my blog, all search results with my site in it would show no dates and probably increase my CTR ;-)
