Interesting discussion. Most of my co-workers have personalized search turned on, but I choose to keep it turned off. It’s interesting when we are testing the rank of a client for a keyword they have to logout of Google to see real results whereas I do not and we get in this same discussion.

My motive for turning it off is multi-faceted. Part is to avoid the mono-culture as Dan stated, and part because I would personally rather see the real results and filter them myself instead of have Google do it for me.

Another point that wasn’t directly brought up here is that when I’m at work my searches are heavily weighted toward things in my industry, but when I need to search for something that isn’t work research will my search results be skewed with personalized search turned on? It seams like there could be cases of that.

I agree Marcus, most people believe their friends and families in making decision, almost 90%. Agree with Dan as well that it depends on which social networking sites we use.

For me, personalized search help in shaping all the companies to give better services and products.

By the way, Rachel, would you mind republish this blog post on my blog as guest blogger. A backlink will put to link to your blog (for whatever anchor text you need). :)
