SEOptimise will be at the Online Marketing Show this week at Olympia in London, so make sure you come and visit our stand.

The exhibition is hosted on Tuesday 30th June to Wednesday 1st July and promises to be one of the UK’s top online marketing events. Plus you can still get entrance passes at the show and follow the event on the official @OMS09 Twitter account and #OMS09 hashtag.

SEOptimise will be on stand A138, we’ll hopefully see you there! :)

Thanks to everyone who took part in our is social media future proof online poll, we received a great response and the results are now in!

We have published all results below, along with any comments and our own conclusions for each question. If you are reading this in an RSS reader or email please click through to view online.

Question 1) Which social media website is most likely to still be around in 2020?

At lunchtime today we took part in the Oxford Science Park summer event. We played giant beach volleyball, winning our only game, and bungee darts where we were useless and didn’t score a single point between us!

Unfortunately we have photographic evidence too! :D

For a few months now my work consists mainly of business blogging. I do less and less conventional client SEO work like keyword research or link building. This is quite a change as I’ve been a full time search engine optimizer and SEO consultant for several years in a row. Thus I still get SEO related inquiries and offers.

By now many people know what SEO is about, at least superficially. This is often more of an issue than a help though. Some people have some distorted preconceptions as what SEO is about and how it works.

This week an inquiry was about link building for a travel website. I won’t disclose which site or destination it was about but it’s one of the most popular and very competitive ones. The email asked for link building and ended with the sentence “let’s start with 50 links”.

While checking referrer stats yesterday I found the question “how to find a great seo company” which indeed is an obvious one and nevertheless a good one. I won’t recommend you a single SEO company in spite of writing for one.

Sadly searching Google, especially Google.com for SEO company is not really the best way to determine one. Why? Try searching for the keyphrase car company.

Do you see the best or most important car company on top? Is it Rolls Royce, Ferrari or even Toyota? Instead I will show things to look out for to find a SEO company that will suit your needs:

We’ve managed to venture out of the office this week to exhibit at Internet World in Earls Court, please come along and visit us at stand E3090, just next to the Keynote Theatre and Google University.

Libby, our new account manager will be with me on the stand all three days, and Kevin will be making it down on Thursday. If you would like to have a chat about your current situation, or have a look through your website with us then please come along. I would also like to thank Clip Display for all their help getting the graphics for the stand organised. Hopefully we’ll see a few of you there.

SEOptimise is running a free seminar covering search engine optimisation and pay per click advertising, it is open to everyone, although registration is required. The seminar will take place in the Saddler Building, just down the road from our offices on The Oxford Science Park, at 9am on Thursday 5th March. As I’m sure you all know, SEOptimise is already one of the best learning resources for SEO and PPC through the blog and you can now come along to meet Kevin Gibbons and other members of the technical team as well as finding out a bit more about SEO and PPC. To register your place please contact Libby Chivers on 01865 784 126 or seminar at seoptimise.com.

Update: View the presentations from the SEOptimise seminar below:

You may have noticed during the last few days the SEOptimise website has been changing, the new design is based on the previous version but improvements have been made to the layout and formatting of the site:

The trouble with search engine optimisation (SEO) is that the people raving about the benefits of the service are also the people providing it.

This means that it can be confusing for a client to choose a company to supply the work. They may have read about the benefits online but they have probably been reading about them on the blogs of those very suppliers.

With SES London less than a month away, I thought I’d write a quick post about why this is one of the search conferences you should definitely consider attending this year.
